Marie-Victoire Cumming – Piano and Violin Lessons

Hello! My name is Marie-Victoire and I am a travelling teacher for violin and piano lessons. I recently moved to Perth from South Africa, and I am passionate about Music and the power it holds to create a platform for self-expression.

I started the violin and piano when I was 5 years old, and I have many years of teaching experience. I studied a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Pretoria in South Africa, and went on to complete a Masters in Music Therapy at the same university. Over the years, I have taught at primary schools, privately, and have additionally worked as a Music Therapist with various populations, including intellectually disability and so forth. I completed my Grade 8 ABRSM and UNISA exams for violin and Trinity Grade 7 for piano. Throughout my music career, I’ve formed part of various orchestras and chamber groups, which brings me great joy!

As a teacher, I encourage creativity and engage my students in a fun and stimulating manner! I integrate music theory in practical lessons, which is an important component when learning an instrument. We are all musical beings, and I believe in enhancing self-esteem through music and achieving a sense of mastery. Embracing individuality is key, and even though we may all learn at a different pace than others, we are all capable and I approach lessons with patience and motivation.
